Campaign for the Protection of Rural England
Campaign for the Protection of Rural England exists to promote the beauty, tranquility and diversity of rural England by encouraging the sustainable use of land and other natural resources in town and country.
Open Spaces Society
Britain's first national conservation body, founded in 1865. In the early years, the Society rescued such signifacnt areas as Hampstead Heath, Epping Forest and Wimbledon and Berkhamstead Commons from enclosure and development. The Society have won vital laws to protect metropolitan commons, to control fencing, to gain a public right to walk on urban commons and to list commons on registers. Some of the founders went on to create the National Trust. Since then, the Society have pressed successfully for the recording of rights of way, and for the designation of national parks. The Open Spaces Society continues to campaign to see thousands of rural commons and urban green spaces better managed, better protected and open for simple public enjoyment.
