Point to Pointing

Point to Point racing is steeplechasing for amateurs. It is run under the sanction and regulations of the Jockey Club while each Meeting is run at a local level by a Hunt or recognised Point to Point Club, under the jurisdiction of the Point to Point Owners' and Riders' Association (PPORA), and the Point to Point Secretaries' Association (PPSA). "So many horses come into racing through Point to Pointing. A couple of years ago at Larkhill, See More Business, Cool Dawn, Harwell Lad and Hanakham all competed on the same card. Hunting and Point to Pointing provide young horses with the ideal introduction to chasing." Robert Alner, 1998 Cheltenham Gold Cup winning trainer The season runs from January to June and there were 208 fixtures scheduled for this season, the majority of which will be held at weekends. Most races are run over 3 miles with a minimum of 18 fences to be jumped, although there are a few longer races (up to 4 miles) and a small number of 2 mile races for maidens. A large number of riders, owners, trainers and officials all received their first taste of racing from Point to Points. The sport encourages and educates young jockeys in race-riding as recent examples Joe Tizzard, Tom Scudamore, Mark Bradburne, Ben Hitchcott and Richard Johnson illustrate, all having made the transition from Point to Points to racing under rules with considerable success. Training the Teachers of Tomorrow Trust

A Young Instructor wrote that the TTT is "a place of trust and learning".

We saw talented youngsters, anxious to make careers as top-class Riders and Trainers, and who had worked hard to pass their BHS Exams, setting up a yard of their own or free-lancing, discovering they had to work all hours to make both ends meet, and therefore had no opportunity to improve their own standards of Riding and Training, so we created a fantastic opportunity for those truly dedicated by bringing the World Famous Trainers to the TTT here in the UK.

Membership of the Trust is not confined to Instructors and Dressage Judges, it also offers a unique opportunity for all people who enjoy watching horses in action to further their understanding of the correct training of horse and rider as practiced by the great Masters of Equitation.

All non-Members are welcome at all our functions as spectators.

If you are looking to enter the world of carriage driving as a whip, groom, helper or supporter (near or far), then why not join our happy band! If you are interested in joining us, or, you have any comments relating to carriage driving or this site, please email them to us here . We look forward to hearing from you.

Western Equestrian Society

Formed in 1985 to promote and improve the standard of Western Equitation in the United Kingdom.

THE Western Equestrian Society was formed in 1985 by a small group of enthusiasts who wished to take Western Horsemanship away from the "Movie Cowboy" image and place it firmly in its rightful place . . . another highly skilled equestrian discipline alongside the other horse disciplines in the British Isles. It was felt that not only would many other riders enjoy this style, but that riding schools would be willing to add it to their curriculum if the Society were to achieve those aims.

SINCE its inception the Society has grown quickly – not only in membership – but more importantly in stature, as well as gaining recognition by the more readily available disciplines on offer to the British riding public.
