Days out from Farnham
Pages: 1
These days out pull together some of the activities and attractions that can be found in the Farnham section of this website. Further details can be picked up from the Tourist Information Centre.
Discover Farnham
Take in the history of Farnham on the Heritage Trail. This circular route can be started at any point. The route passes Farnham Museum, well worth a visit as part of your day. The museum also has delightful gardens in which visitors can sit and picnic or just enjoy the sounds of the birds. The Heritage Trail also gives ample opportunity to browse some of the specialist shops in Farnham and take in a pub lunch.
After lunch, explore the open landscapes of the 320 acre Farnham Park. This is on the northern edge of the town close to Farnham Caste and is a haven for wildlife.

For the slightly less energetic it is worth visiting the Evelyn Borelli Garden of Rest. This small sculpture garden has a winding path that leads to the Surrey Institute’s Student Village, with displays of student work.
Hops and Brewing trail
This trail provides an insight into the role of Farnham as an important 18th Century hop-farming centre. From Farnham centre, visit the Maltings in Bridge Square. This building was formally a tannery and brewery and would have been demolished if it had not been bought by the people of Farnham for use as an arts and community centre.
Close to the Maltings is the beginning of the North Downs Way. This can be followed for 2 ˝ miles and a detour made to the award winning Hogs Back Brewery, Surrey’s largest independent brewery.
Return to the town taking in some wildlife in the Blackwater Valley Nature Reserve. Enjoy dinner in of the many pubs and restaurants in Farnham town centre.
There is also a themed walk produced by the Surrey Hills ANOB called Hops & Heather. This is based around Frensham, 3 miles South East from Farnham and takes in the Frensham Ponds. This could be enjoyed as an alternative to the North Downs Way and brewery visit.
Explore the countryside by bike
This route begins at the Alice Holt Woodland Park, 3 miles South West of Farnham. The nearest station is at Bentley. From here you can walk through Alice Holt Forest to the Woodland Park along public rights of way. Alternatively there are buses to the Woodland Park from Farnham.
Hire a bike from Pedalabikeaway who are based at the Woodland Park. From here you can cycle the beautiful woodland on the extensive marked trails or follow and guide your way around the orienteering course.
This can be a great half-day out but if you fancy exploring the countryside further you can follow the suggested routes on the Surrey Cycle Guides to Frensham Common where there are further off road cycle trails to explore.
For the more adventurous cyclists a circular route can be taken through the attractive villages of Churt, Elstead and Puttenham, returning to Farnham on the Surrey Cycleway.
Cycle hire at Pedalabikeaway does have seasonal variations so please check with Tourist Information before setting out for the day and ensure that you have adequate maps for your route.
