Why Pevensey?

Pevensey, neighbouring Westham, and Pevensey Bay provide a perfect base to explore 1066 Country.  For explorers, the surrounding countryside – Pevensey Levels – is, as the name suggests, very flat.  This provides ideal countryside for walking, cycling and riding. It is also one of the richest areas in the country for marsh birds.  Head to the coast and enjoy the wonderful Pevensey Bay, or head inland down the 1066 Country Walk to see the key sites of the Norman invasion.  But firstly make sure you explore the pretty village of Pevensey with its castle, old courthouse, and historic mint.

Activities to Enjoy in Pevensey

Nestled between the sea and the Levels, Pevensey is ideal for easy walking and cycling, with few hills to climb.  This makes it ideal for family and leisurely strolls or gentle rides in along the coast or in the surrounding countryside. Alternatively, Pevensey Bay has an award-winning beach safe for swimming, and is a popular spot for windsurfers.

When you are out and about in the countryside, remember the Countryside Code.  There are five sections of the Code as follows:

- Be safe, plan ahead and follow any signs
- Leave gates and property as you find them
- Protect plants and animals and take your litter home
- Keep dogs under close control
- Consider other people
