Description:
A truly memorable wildlife experience for all the family. A former chalk quarry, near Tring in Buckinghamshire, this reserve has been transformed into a thriving centre for wildlife and supports more than 1,000 species. It boasts panoramic views of the surrounding farmland and Chiltern hills and has become a haven for many migrating birds.
After finally securing a long-term lease for the reserve in 2006, vital re-landscaping work has taken place in the marsh area to make it suitable for fluctuating water levels. Islands, dykes and scrapes have been created so there will always be some land, whatever the water level.
Seasonal highlights not to miss:
wild daffodils, bluebells and cowslips in spring
a blaze of colour with corncockle, pheasant’s eye and cornflower in summer
a bustling community of wildfowl and waterbirds, including waders, great crested grebe, wigeon, teal, little winged plover and snipe in winter.
