Description:

A remnant of rare ancient heathland in west Berks, a flower-filled wilderness fringed with woodland that rings with birdsong.

The acid soil encourages a variety of heathland plants including gorse, three types of heather, the scarce pale dog-violet and delicate blue heath milkwort. Look and listen for warblers in late spring and summer.

Best time to visit: spring and summer
