About the Rural Ways Website and Partnership
The Rural Ways website was conceived as an opportunity to bring together information on the numerous rural activities in the south east. The website has been jointly funded by Tourism South East, the regional tourist board; the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the government department responsible for rural activity and enterprise; the Government Office for the South East (GOSE)'s Strategy for Sustainable Food and Farming and the Countryside Agency's Landscape, Access and Recreation division.
It is also supported by the county council's of the South East (Kent, Surrey, East Sussex, West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire) as well as the management teams of the Area's of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) in the region (Chichester Harbour, Chilterns, High Weald, Isle of Wight, Kent Downs, North Wessex Downs, New Forest (now a National Park), Surrey Hills and the South Downs)
The Rural Ways Partnership is the body behind the Rural Ways website. The aims of the Partnership are as follows:
- To bring together tourism, rights of way and countryside/landscape managers to share experience, co-ordinate efforts and maximise scarce resources.
- To raise the profile within the tourism industry and the public agencies, of the key part walking, cycling and horse riding plays in the tourism product of the south east.
- To market the walking, cycling and horse riding product in the south east and develop economies of scale through partnership working
